Riley is bailey’s brother and he and Bailey have a lot in common. Riley is truly devoted to kids. He follows his foster parents’ grandkids everywhere. He ‘smiles’, wiggles and wags his tail as soon as he sees children.
Riley also likes being with other dogs. He passed the ‘entrance test’ with flying colors and was accepted into doggie daycare! He loves spending the day hanging out with the other dogs.
6 year old Riley is a smart boy. He graduated “magnum cum laude” from his level 1 obedience class. He was heads and tails above the other dogs!
Every vet who has seen Riley has said the same thing, “he’s a great dog”! He sits quietly and lets the vet do anything to him without moving a muscle.
He’s had surgery to repair a torn ear flap (click here to read about this https://csrne.org/rileys-ear-surgery/ ) and had part of his right ear canal removed, however he still hears perfectly. He has Keratitis in his right eye (inflammation of the ocular surface) and is on daily Tacrolimus drops.
Riley, like his brother, has developed significant separation anxiety. He is absolutely devoted to his foster dad. He follows him everywhere – if his foster dad leaves the house for 5 minutes, Riley greets him like he’s been gone for hours. He wants to sit as close to his dad as possible (preferably on his lap). In fact, he’s learned to sit on the sofa and fall backwards onto his dad’s lap!
Riley cannot be left home alone. It’s possible that having another dog with him would help. He loves staying with a young woman who worked at the doggie daycare center and her stay-at-home mother. He went to daycare during the day and came back to their condo at night and was fine.
We know it will be a challenge to find the right home for Riley. We are now trying to set up an evaluation with a veterinary behaviorist to see if there is something that can be done to help him with his separation anxiety.
Riley has one of the best temperaments we have seen in a rescue cocker. He deserves to find a home where his truly wonderful personality and temperament will be appreciated.
