Axel is now available alone as his best friend lady passed away while they were waiting to be adopted. He certainly misses Lady and would love to find his forever home! Can you open your heart and your home to Axel?
Axel and Lady have experienced some rough times. Their owner lost his apartment last spring and went to live in a tent in an encampment. They managed to do alright during the summer but when fall arrived with 20 degree nights, 10 year old Lady’s health began to decline. She lost over 20 lbs. and the arthritis in her hind end worsened making it difficult for her to stand and walk.
By the time we were able to rescue these two dogs in early this December, Lady was weak, lethargic and trembled from the cold. Despite all of this, she remains one of the sweetest dogs we have ever met.
Lady, an ‘un-cocker’, immediately responded to warmth, plenty of good food and slow but regular exercise to build up the wasted muscles in her hind end. Our vet was pleased to report that all her bloodwork was “surprisingly good”.
8 year old Axel fared much better living outdoors. The vet says he’s a healthy cocker – he’s also very affectionate and likes to gently express his attachment to our volunteer by cuddling next to him and giving kisses.
Axel and Lady have always lived together. We know it will be much harder to adopt them out as a bonded pair – most adopters only want one dog and vet care for 2 dogs can be costly. But we’re hoping there might be someone willing to give this sweet pair a forever home with warm beds and a lot of snuggling.
