Tasha

This very pretty six year old black and tan girl needs a new home because her recently widowed owner is moving into-pets housing.  Tasha is a quiet, reserved cocker who was very close to the husband.  She's timid with strangers and it takes a few visits before she warms up to people.  Her vet describes her as "a nice little dog" with an "excellent temperament". 

Tasha's owners bought her at 7 months of age before that, she was being trained by her breeder as a possible show dog but they decided she would do better in a companion pet home.  When Tasha was 7 months old, she was diagnosed with a bladder infection and she had crystals in her urine.  She was treated and there was no recurrence of any bladder problems, however, she is not yet reliably housebroken.  It's possible that being in a cage for the first 7 months of her life as well as having a bladder infection may have contributed to her housebreaking problem. 

She was recently examined by a vet who said she is healthy and has no lingering bladder issues.  The vet said that he thinks this problem is behavioral and she needs a home with people who will take her out for frequent leash walks, put her on a structured schedule, and basically train her as a un-housebroken puppy until she "gets it".  She does love to go for walks and she will piddle and poop if someone is right there with her. 

A lot of cockers are like this--they can lose focus and forget why they are outside when they lose sight of their owner.  Like many cockers, she does not like to be put on a tie-out if it's raining but she will readily go for a leash walk.  This gentle, quiet girl needs a quiet home with patient adopters who are willing to give her a second chance to be a housetrained dog.  She is well worth the effort!
