Bridget

(Visit our Facebook page for video)

Bridget was very happy to meet our volunteer who came to visit with her!  She greeted him with her tail wagging, gave him a paw and then went and played with her toys.

Bridget’s owner loved her dearly but he passed away recently and she has gone to live with his daughter and her family.  Although they too love Bridget, they have two small children, the parents work and Bridget was used to the undivided attention of two retired adults who doted on her.

Bridget is 10 years old and her current caregivers feel she’d be much happier as the only dog in an adult-only home.  She is afraid of other dogs if they invade her space or approach her too quickly, but she is not aggressive – she just barks.

Bridget has been well-socialized since she was a puppy.  She is used to leash walks, likes riding in the car, she’s housebroken and was fine being groomed.  She has never been crated.

On March 8th Bridget was examined by her vet who called her “a very sweet dog”.  The vet said she has a healthy coat and skin and her ears are clean.  Like many senior cockers, she has some arthritis in her hind end, but the vet wrote “it is not causing her any distress”.  She did recommend that Bridget lose some weight.

Bridget is a beautiful sable and white cocker who just loves people and is used to getting lots of attention.  She wants to be an “only child” in a home where people are home much of the day, although she is fine if left alone for short periods.

The video on our Facebook page clearly shows how really adorable this senior girl is!

We ask everyone interested in adopting to please fill out and send in our adoption application and restraint agreement before we invite you to meet any dogs.   Once your application is approved, we can proceed!

Woods

ADOPTED!!!

IMG_4971

Woods a/k/a Woody a/k/a Woodrow is an 11 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel who is looking for his fur-ever home.

Woods is a handsome boy with a beautiful butterscotch coat. He is an active sporting dog that loves to hike (capable of up to 3-4 miles per hike), at least 3xs per week. He will kindly bug you when he wants to go out and hike, but is just as comfortable to hang at home next to his person. Woods also loves to play fetch with his tennis ball in the backyard.

Woods is looking for a home that is a low traffic environment with no young children and a backyard to enjoy the outdoors when not hiking with his human to live out his golden years. He, also requires a comfy couch to nap and at bedtime prefers to be in the same room with his human with the luxury to either sleep on your bed or his bed on the floor in the same room. Woods sleeps quietly through the night waiting patiently for you to wake up. He’s up when you’re up, ready to start the day alongside you.

Woods is presently on medication to help curtail any anxiety he might have. However, he doesn’t illicit any anxiety for 90% of the time. In the right home, you wouldn’t even know that Woods has anxiety. I believe, in collaboration with the Veterinarian, he can be weaned off his puppy Prozac once comfortable in his new fur-ever home.

Woods is a gem, calm and patient with the veterinarians and groomers. He is well-behaved more than most dogs. He is also good with most dogs. He can coexist with another dog or two in a household. He prefers calm, respectful and gentler dogs of all sizes. He shows no aggression whatsoever to humans and dogs living in the household.

Woods has received positive-reinforcement training and comes with the following skills:

House Trained

Crate Trained

Muzzle Trained

Cooperative Care Trained

Excellent Loose-Leash Walking Skills

Can be left alone for up-to 8 hrs. without incident.

Proficient in the following skills and cues: sit, down, stay, recall and look.

Woods is a sensitive boy that has a somewhat unknown past. He has come a long way since I first met him. He was known to have nipped a few individuals in a short time frame (original owner of 5 years pass away leaving him in unfamiliar surroundings and traumatized). He was a loyal dog showing no signs of aggression prior. Woods has and continues to receive training addressing any fear and/or anxiety that he may experience with strangers or unfamiliar humans and dogs. He will need someone to continue to work on his feelings with strangers alongside preventative management. He thrives in a structural and predictable environment.

We ask everyone interested in adopting to please fill out and send in our adoption application and restraint agreement before we invite you to meet any dogs. Once your application is approved, we can proceed!

Sammy

sammy

sammy

sammy2

Sammy is a 3 year old neutered male.

Sammy is a wonderful, sweet, sensitive cocker spaniel. He is buff colored with white highlights. At about 48lbs, he is a little larger than the average cocker spaniel. We think he may be part English as well as American because of his size and because he is a little more muscular than the other cocker spaniels in the family. Despite his size, he is very gentle.

He was the youngest of the cocker spaniels he has lived with and although he grew larger, he was always was the youngest and followed the other pups. Sammy can be nervous and shy if he is alone. If he has an owner who can be at home or who is retired (or a couple so someone can be with him) that would ideal as he will cry if he is alone.

He did live with a very gentle female cocker spaniel and they loved to play together. “Fetch the ball” and “Is that mine?” are his favorite games. He likes to grab your hat (sometimes out of a coat pocket or will try to take it off your head). He will run away with it, wagging his tail and want you to chase him.

Sammy would be a great addition for a family with children over 16 -as he has no experience living little kids.

He is fine with older cocker spaniels who are gentle like him.

Soft dog-beds and blankets are things he loves. No dog-bones except the clear chew bones. Sammy needs a harness because he likes to chase squirrels, birds and rabbits and may get out of a collar.

He is neutered and a very healthy 3 year old who needs a lot of love and a family who can provide him with lots of attention. Because he likes to run and sniff everything, he also needs a big fenced in yard. Sammy needs a little more socialization because he was born during the pandemic and is used to being with his pack family.

Teddy Bear

ADOPTED!!!

IMG_4924

IMG_4925

Teddy Bear is a 10 year old Cocker Spaniel approximately 20-25 pounds. He has a wonderful gentle temperament. He currently lives in harmony with multiple cats and chickens and gets along with most dogs. He is very social and playful with humans.  He is a wonderful and affectionate companion.  His favorite activities are hanging out with his companions, belly rubs, and chewing on things like pigs ears.  He does not have much interest in playing with balls or other toys.

Teddy Bear is in need of a new loving fur-ever home.  As his personality demonstrates, he has been very well loved. Unfortunately, his human Mom is battling with advanced cancer. In the last year she has had two major surgeries.  She is now undergoing chemotherapy and has many medical complications. In efforts to look out for Teddy Bear’s best interest and future, her wish is to ensure a loving home for Teddy bear.

Prior to adoption Teddy Bear will be fully vetted including neuter, vaccination updates, and microchip.

Archie
archie1

Archie – 16 month old male

Archie is a young dog with lots of energy. He loves to be outside for long walks and hikes. He has a strong flushing instinct for birds and rabbits. He is a very intelligent dog and needs games that challenge him. He likes other dogs and would do best in a home with another confident and energetic dog. He needs a calm/predictable home environment. Archie has had a lot of experience with a professional dog trainer who will share experiences and advice with adopter. Archie is an immaculate dog.

Charlie

ADOPTED!

charlie

Charlie – 3 year old Chocolate & White

Charlie loved sitting right up front in the airplane with the pilot on his freedom flight from NJ to The Cape! He was fascinated by the clouds rather than cowering on the floor like many dogs! His foster mom says he is “super friendly”! Lots of energy and likes other dogs. His current kennel caregiver says he is very clean in his kennel. A big beautiful boy with 1 brown and 1 blue eye!

Silver (The Un-Cocker)

IMG_4019

Silver – 7 year old 70 pound Un-Cocker (Silver Labrador)

One of our supporters drove to Pennsylvania to rescue a cocker and kindly let Silver hitch a ride too. Both dogs were 24 hours from being shipped to “auction” – a miserable, inhumane event for unwanted puppy mill dogs. She is a big bundle of Lab Love! She adores people and wants to be as close as possible to her caregivers at the kennel. She loves long walks and rides (in the front seat if possible). Everybody at the kennel absolutely adores her! She is currently seeing an internist for reoccurring bladder infections. They think they have found the proper antibiotic and feel after 4 to 6 weeks on it she will be cured and she will be able to be spayed.

(Editorial Comment: Terry here, I’m the volunteer who does website support. I also do transport and work events. I met the person who had the pleasure of transporting Silver. She couldn’t stop raving about what a great pup Silver is and she is asking people she knows to consider adopting her! I felt like that said a lot when a cocker person is this excited about a lab!)

Rupert

cr2

Rupert – 10 year old male – BEST Friends with Cooper

(It would be awesome if they could stay together, as they help each other be the BEST dogs!)

Rupert was a neglected dog in previous life. He was crated too much and didn’t have enough time with kind people. He has made great progress since being with CSRNE and meeting his best buddy Cooper. He adores Marc (his caregiver) who has spent much time getting to know Rupert. Rupert really loves Cooper who has taught him to play and trust! Rupert is very clean in his kennel.

Cooper

cr

Cooper – 2 years 8 month old male – BEST Friends with Rupert

(It would be awesome if they could stay together, as they help each other be the BEST dogs!)

Cooper is a young energetic cocker who loves to chase a ball and actively plays with other dogs. He is very smart and learns quickly. He and Rupert are best buddies and would love to stay together. He runs to Rupert’s Kennel and waits so they can play together. They really help each other be the best dogs they can be! He is very clean in has kennel.

Dory & Dancer

(Bonded Pair)

dd

Dory and Dancer – females 7 and 10 years old – Bonded Pair

Two adorable little “mini cockers” have spent their lives as breeding dogs on a “puppy farm” where they lived in a barn with horses. They are bonded sisters who it turns out are not skittish and enjoy human attention and other dogs! They quickly got used to living in a house and love sleeping on a dog bed next to their caregiver. They can be a bit leery of strangers but run up and greet their caregiver. Both are very clean in their kennel.

Tramp & Dewey

(Bonded Pair)

Tramp – Blind 12 year old – Bonded with Dewy

Recent update (see original bio under Dewey)…

Tramp recently had enucleation surgery to alleviate pain and discomfort in both eyes from glaucoma. He recovered quickly and doesn’t require any eye meds. He and Dewey have adapted very well to their foster home both inside and out! Fine with other dogs. Both Tramp and Dewy love to eat!

Dewey – Blind 9 year old – Bonded with Tramp

Tramp and Dewy lost both their owners and their home. The surviving caretaker was going to assisted living and couldn’t take his 2 precious cockers. All of this would be stressful for any dog but Tramp and Dewy are blind. Losing everything familiar was especially difficult. Both are healthy even after a long period without vet care. Both are small cockers, weighing only 20 pounds. Both are pretty dogs and exceptionally sweet – both love to eat!

Diamond & King

(Bonded Pair)

Diamond and King – 1 year old brother & sister – Bonded Pair

Brother and sister who dearly love each other and play together all the time. They would love a big fenced yard to continue to play tag! Exceptionally sweet and very clean in their kennel.

(Editorial Comment: Terry here, I’m the volunteer who does website support. I also do transport and work events. My hubby and I transported these 2 cuties from CT to MA for an hour’s drive and couldn’t believe how cute and well behaved they both were. They were friendly when meeting us and rode in the backseat like little angels.)

Coco, Cookie, Milo and Lucy

Cookie and her 3 ten year old “kids” are ready to leave the city and settle into new homes in New England.

Three weeks ago, they all had a day of beauty at the groomers and the groomer said they were easy to groom and now look very spiffy!

On November 2nd, all 4 dogs went together to the vet for a general wellness exam.  Coco has a small skin growth on her right front paw and Melo had an ear infection that was treated with the long-acting BNT ear medication.  He also had a skin infection in his groin area and was put on 14 days of antibiotics.  All of them need a dental cleaning and CSRNE will have them rechecked when they settle in New England.  The staff at the vet’s office said they were “cute and well-behaved”.

Coco gets very high marks from her current owner who describes her as very intelligent, a social butterfly who loves attention, is very playful, beautiful and a joy to be around.  Whoever rescues her should consider themselves blessed.  She’s an amazing, loyal companion.

Melo is a big boy weighing in at 51lbs (the vet said he could lose some weight).  Several years ago Melo was diagnosed with allergies to fleas and dust mites as the probable cause of his ear infection.  CSRNE will have him checked out further for allergies and, if necessary, start him on the treatment for environmental allergies.

Melo has always lived with Lucy and their owner feels they are a bonded pair.  Melo loves children and his current owner feels he would flourish in a situation where children are around.  He loves to run and play in a fenced yard and go for leash walks.

Lucy is a beautiful black and white merle color.  She likes other dogs and she enjoys car rides.  She is happy and lovable and, like so many cockers, enjoys getting into an open garbage can.

CSRNE needs to settle these cockers in New England before the end of November.  Our caregivers will have a chance to further evaluate them for personality, activity level, personal quirks, etc.  We will have them rechecked by our vet for the progress of Melo’s ear treatment, schedule dental cleanings and provide any other care they may need.  The vet who examined them on 11/2 felt they were essentially healthy dogs with some typical cocker issues.

We’re anxious to place these socialized, affectionate cockers as soon as possible in loving, forever homes.
