Update:April 19, 2008:
Garth
has had his cherry eye repaired, has been neutered and still
has on going ear problems. He has lived with his ear pain
for so long he accepts his pain. My goal is to get his ears
to be completely pain free and keep them pain free. He is a
wonderful dog and I am so happy to be a part of his life.
He loves his new home and his brothers and sister. He has a
truly sweet disposition, follows me everywhere, loves to go
on walks and plays with his tennis ball. He is great about
brushing his teeth.
This dear middle-aged cocker was found late
on a bitter cold night wandering in a parking lot. Even though
he was exhausted and cold, he greeted his rescuers with a
friendly face and a wagging tail. Garth had been neglected in
the extreme. There were polyps in both of his badly infected
ears. He also had infected gums, rotten teeth, and a cheery eye.
Despite all the discomfort Garth experienced, he just loved
everyone he met and never stopped wagging his little cocker
bunny tail. Our vet immediately sedated him and did a deep ear
flush to clean out all the debris in both his ears and he was
put antibiotics and Prednisone. Two weeks later he was sedated
again and had to have twelve teeth extracted. When our volunteer
picked him up that evening, Garth greeted him with lots of tail
wags and he actually wanted his supper. Garth’s foster mom
reports that he is “so much better” and happily enjoys gumming
his Denta-bone. He knows when his foster mom comes home every
day and he is always sitting at the door ready to give her his
paw. In a couple of more weeks, Garth will have his cheery eye
repaired and will also be neutered. It’s a real privilege to
help a lovely cocker like Garth and your support means that we
can continue to provide the veterinary care that ensures a good
quality of life for these needy cockers.
Total cost of surgeries and vet care is $774.88.
