This mother cocker and her pups got off to a
very rough start in life. Jenna (the mother) and an adult male
cocker were left outside day and night in a ramshackle pen with
no shade or water. When the neighbors complained about the
barking, the owner put the 2 dogs in his basement and they were
never again let outside or allowed in the house. Jenna got
pregnant and gave birth to her pups in the filthy, dark basement
where they remained for 6 months until one of the neighbors
became aware of the situation and persuaded the owner to give
him all the dogs and then called the Animal Control Officer who
immediately called us.
Jenna and the 3 male pups arrived at our
foster home frightened and anxious but they soon discovered the
absolute joy of running free in the big fenced yard and were
reassured by quiet, calm voices and lots of cuddling.
It's taken some time but they have settled
down and are now able to focus on some basic obedience
training. All of them were recently spayed and neutered and got
all their vaccines.
These beautiful, healthy cockers need
owners willing to housebreak them, continue their obedience
training and provide large fenced yards so they can enjoy their
favorite pastime - running and playing in a safe, secure area.
Jenna is a happy two-year-old girl who is
affectionate and loves to cuddle and just be with her foster
mom. She is starved for attention and would do better as an
only dog who doesn't need to compete for her family's affection.
She is not totally housebroken.
