UPDATE - 3/19/08:
Dolly has been unable to have her eye surgery due to the great
fluctuations in her blood sugars. She was going along very well
for a while and we were doing all the preparations for surgery
but then we had another setback. Her medical management with
the glucose curves, different insulins, the seizure monitoring,
special diet, incontinence medications and antibiotics is
currently costing close to $500. per month. We are hoping that
in the near future, we will hit on a combination that will work
for her.
Her most recent exam detected the possibility of the retina
becoming detached in her right eye. We will have to get her to
the Ophthalmologist as soon as possible. She may also need a
change in her eye medications to treat her for glaucoma. This in
itself poses a problem for Dolly because many of the drugs used
contain steroids which Dolly, as a diabetic, cannot use.
Dolly's situation has been very frustrating but she has been a
trooper throughout it all. She is always the first one to hop
up in your lap and furiously wag her whole behind! She would
greatly appreciate continued sponsorship so that her diabetes
can be brought under control and she can continue to have a good
quality of life.
Dolly
is an adorable girl who is only 5 years old and has a very, very sad
story to tell. She was dearly loved by an elderly gentleman who had
to be hospitalized due to a terminal illness. To make her situation
worse, Dolly was diabetic and her owner did not realize it and
therefore she was never treated and the lack of treatment caused her
to loose her eye sight. Thanks to the intervention of the caretaker
of Dolly’s owner, Dolly was brought to the veterinarian and started
to receive the care she needed for her diabetes which includes a
special diet and insulin injections given twice daily. Dolly is
already blind due to diabetic cataracts but once she is regulated,
those cataracts can be removed and her sight can be restored! The
estimated cost of this surgery is $2600.00. Once the cataracts are
removed, they can never return and Dolly will see again!
You
would have to meet Dolly to realize just what a special girl she is!
She has an incredibly trusting, loving personality and is a very
special girl to have maintained such a positive attitude in the face
of all the hardships she has been forced to endure! It is CSRNE’s
hope that we can raise the funds to perform the cataract surgery to
restore her sight. Once this has been accomplished, we feel Dolly
would make an excellent certified Therapy Dog because of her kind
and gentle nature. We could envision introducing Dolly to newly
diagnosed diabetic children, or adults for that matter, so that her
courage might help put their fears and anxieties at ease. Dolly is a
real trooper when it comes to her insulin injections and never even
flinches and she loves to cuddle in bed with her head on the pillow
right next to yours! Dolly is a one in a million girl and brings
love to everyone she meets!
Please help us to reach our
goal and give Dolly the chance to see again.
